Huis Leeuwenburg

The Huis Leeuwenburg at Oudezijds Voorburgwal 14 is also known as 'Het Wapen van Riga' (The Weapon of Riga). It has a wooden frame and brick walls. The stone walls are anchored to the wooden skeleton. The property was built in 1605 by a merchant from the Russian city of Riga. In the middle facing brick you can see two crossed keys, the weapon of Riga. The left facing brick shows a fortress with a lion's head. In 1942 this house was restored by the Hendrick de Keyser Association and since 1951 a goodwill center of the Salvation Army has been established.
